Tigersharks Fall to Makos; New PB's Set
On Saturday, July 8, the Sewanee Tigersharks hosted the Manchester Makos at the Fowler Center Natatorium. The Makos defeated the Tigersharks 367 to 242.
The Tigersharks 8 & U Mixed Medley Relay Team of Harper Thompson, Sarah-Russell Roberson, Anara Summers, and Konrad Knoll took first place, as did the 9-10 Mixed Medley Team of Maya Mauzy, Toby Van de Ven, Caroline Neubauer, and Emery Preslar. In the Freestyle Relays, first place finishes were garnered by the 9-10 Girls’ Team of Stella Wilson, Caroline Neubauer, Maya Mauzy, and Sienna Barry and the 9-10 Boys’ Team of Toby Van de Ven, Braden Setzer-Carmody, Miles Mundkowsky, and Emery Preslar.
Four Tigershark swimmers dominated their respective age groups at the meet, taking first in all possible individual events. In the 13-14 Boys’ Age Group, Zolon Knoll (13) won the 100 M Individual Medley [IM] with a time of 1:13.52, and took two more first place finishes for the Tigersharks with new personal best [PB] times in the 50 M Breastroke (38.43) and 50 M Butterfly (31.15). Anara Summers (7) finished first in the 7-8 Girls’ 25 M Breaststroke with a new PB of 27.97, 100 M IM (2:02.04), and 25 M Backstroke with a new PB of 26.74. The 6 & U age groups were swept by Tigershark swimmers Rosa Thompson (6) with first place finishes in the 6 & U girls’ 25 M Freestyle (29.66) and 25 M Backstroke (33.49) and Konrad Knoll (6) with first place finishes in the 6 & U Boys’ 25 M Freestyle and 25 M Backstroke. Konrad Knoll took an additional third place finish competing up an age group in the 7-8 Boys’ 100 M IM with a new PB time of 2:01.57 seconds.
Additional Tigershark swimmers had one or more exceptional races during the meet including: Reese Michaels (11) with first place finishes in the Girls’ 11-12 50 M Breaststroke (48.49 - new PB) and 50 M Butterfly (48.60); Libby Neubauer (12) with first place finishes in the 11-12 Girls’ 50 M Freestyle (36.86) and 50 M Backstroke (43.15); Maya Mauzy (10) with a first place finish in the 9-10 Girls’ 25 M Backstroke (21.47); Caroline Neubauer (9) with a first place finish in the 9-10 Girls’ 25 M Butterfly (22.89); Porter Neubauer (14) with a first place finish and new personal best time in the 13-14 Boys’ 50 M Freestyle (30.79); Sarah Russell Roberson (8) in the 7-8 Girls’ 25 M Butterfly with a new PB of 25.51; Toby Van de Ven (10) in the 9-10 Boys’ 50 M Freestyle with a new PB of 40.88; and Stella Wilson (9) in the 9-10 Girls’ 25 M Breaststroke (26.81).
Several Tigershark swimmers competed in Breaststroke or Butterfly for the first time at the meet, including 6 year old Lily Camp who competed up in the 7-8 Girls’ Age Group and took 2nd place in the 25 M Breaststroke with a time of 49.49 seconds. Significant time drops were achieved by 6 year old Gillian O’Connell who dropped 14.44 seconds on her 25 M Freestyle and 24.33 seconds on her 25 M Backstroke.
On Saturday, July 15, the Sewanee Tigersharks host the RACE League Championships. The 10 teams in the RACE League will descend on the Fowler Center Natatorium with approximately 600 swimmers total competing in the meet. 10 & U competition starts at 10:00 am and 11 & Up competition starts around 2:30 pm.
