    Tigersharks Finish 3rd at RACE League Championships

    New League and Team Records Set

    On Saturday, July 15, the Sewanee Tigersharks hosted approximately 550 swimmers from nine area swim teams for the end of season RACE League Championships. The Tigersharks finished 3rd with 1536 points. They were barely edged out of 2nd place by the Shelbyville Sharks with 1576.5 points. The Manchester Makos took 1st place overall with 2368 points.

    Brothers Konrad Knoll (6) and Zolon Knoll (13) took High Point Winner for the second year in a row in their respective age groups. Konrad Knoll took first in the 6 & U Boys’ Freestyle (21.45) and Backstroke (25.51) and 4th in the 8 & U Boys 100 Individual Medley (2:05.95), while Zolon Knoll took first with new personal bests in the 13-14 Boys’ 50 M Freestyle (27.67), 50 M Breaststroke (38.12), and 100 M IM (1:10.06).

    Konrad Knoll’s Backstroke time of 25.51 seconds set a new RACE League Record in the 6 & U Boys’ Backstroke, breaking Winchester Penguin Carson Huffines’ 2015 record of 25.89 seconds. Zolon Knoll’s Freestyle time of 27.67 set a new Tigershark team record in the 13-14 Boys’ 50 M Freestyle, breaking Zach Blount’s 2008 record of 27.74.

    Several Tigershark relay teams finished in the top three in the meet including: 1st place finishes in the 8 & U Mixed Medley Relay by Konrad Knoll, Sarah Russell Roberson, Anara Summers, and Sam Frazier and 8 & U Boys’ 100 M Freestyle Relay by Konrad Knoll, Will Roberts, Theo Michaels, and Sam Frazier; 2nd place finishes in the 9-10 Mixed Medley Relay by the team of Maya Mauzy, Toby Van de Ven, Loulie Frazier, and Emery Preslar; 9-10 Boys’ 100 M Freestyle Relay by Preslar, Jack Cassell, Beau Cassell, and Braden Carmody; 13-14 Mixed Medley Relay by Sarah Grace Burns, Porter Neubauer, Zolon Knoll, and Sarah Beth Hobby; 13-14 Girls’ Freestyle Relay of Burns, Jenna Black, Luciana Mollica, and Hobby; 13-14 Boys’ Relay of Porter Neubauer, Dylan Kiningham, Harrison Hartman, and Zolon Knoll; 15-18 Mixed Medley Relays by Sophia Hartman, Sam Smith, Aidan Smith, and Zoey Craft; and 15-18 Boys’ 100 M Freestyle Relay Team of Evan Fox, Owen Pearson, Aidan Smith, and Sam Smith; and 3rd place finishes in the 9-10 Girls 100 M Freestyle Relay by Maya Mauzy, Stella Wilson, Sienna Barry, and Loulie Frazier.

    Many Tigershark swimmers had strong meet performances at Championships, finishing in the top 6 in one or more individual events, including 9-10 Girls’ Sienna Barry 6th in the 50 M Freestyle; 15-18 Girls’ Zoey Craft 4th in the 50 M Breaststroke; 9-10 Girls’ Loulie Frazier 1st in the 50 M Freestyle and 2nd in the 25 M Butterfly; 7-8 Boys’ Sam Frazier 1st in 25 M Breaststroke and 2nd in 25 M Butterfly; 13-14 Girls’ Sarah Beth Hobby 4th in the 50 M Breaststroke and 6th in the 50 M Freestyle; 6 & U Boys’ Archer Ladd 4th in 25 M Freestyle and 3rd in 25 M Backstroke; 9-10 Girls’ Maya Mauzy 1st in 25 M Backstroke, 5th in 25 M Breaststroke, and 6th in 100 M IM; 11-12 Girls’ Reese Michaels 2nd in 50 M Breaststroke; 7-8 Boys’ Theo Michaels 2nd in 25 M Breaststroke; 9-10 Girls’ Caroline Neubauer 6th in the 25 M Backstroke; 11-12 Girls’ Libby Neubauer 2nd in 50 M Backstroke and 5th in the 100 M IM; 13-14 Boys’ Porter Neubauer 3rd in the 50 M Breast; 15-18 Boys’ Owen Pearson 2nd in the 50 M Freestyle and 5th in the 100 M IM; 9-10 Boys’ Emery Preslar 4th in the 50 M Freestyle and 6th in the 100 IM; 7-8 Sarah Russell Roberson 2nd in the 25 M Freestyle and 3rd in the 100 M IM and 25 M Butterfly; 15-18 Boys’ Aidan Smith 4th in the 50 M Freestyle and 5th in the 50 M Butterfly; 15-18 Boys’ Sam Smith 4th in the 50 M Breaststroke and 5th in the 100 M IM; 7-8 Girls’ Anara Summers 2nd in the 25 M Backstroke, 3rd in the 25 M Breaststroke, and 4th in the 100 M IM; and 9-10 Boys’ Toby Van de Ven 2nd in the 50 M Freestyle, 4th in the 100 M IM, and 6th in the 25 M Butterfly.

    Many swimmers swam new personal bests at the Championship meet including 7 year old Adeline Pond with time improvements of 15.86 sec in the 25 M Freestyle and 10.63 sec in the 25 M Backstroke, 5 year old Jack Roberts with a time improvement of 14.40 sec in the 25 M Backstroke, 7 year old Addy Knight with a 13.50 second improvement in the 25 M Breaststroke, and 7 year old Betty Lewin with an 11.10 second improvement in the 25 M Freestyle.

    The Sewanee Tigersharks will start up again in mid-April of 2018 with Pre-Swim Team practices followed by Tigershark Swim Team practices beginning in early May.
